This busy Carolina Forest area road will close to traffic. What drivers can expect

A portion of International Drive in the Myrtle Beach area will close this week as crews conduct controlled burns in the area, according to Horry County Fire Rescue.

Beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday, a stretch of the road extending from Highway 90 to just west of Wolf Trail will close to traffic, Horry County Fire Rescue announced on Facebook. The road will reopen when conditions allow, the post said. Leading up to the closure, and over the next few weeks, people in the area of Lewis Ocean Bay may notice smoke as the burns are completed.

During the road closure, law enforcement will be present for enforcement. Access to the Horry County Solid Waste Recycling Facility will be available, but only from Highway 90. Businesses near Red Wolf Trail will not be impacted by the closure.

These prescribed burns are being set to manage forests and prevent uncontrolled forest fires, according to the announcement. The burn will “reduce the accumulation of flammable fuels on the forest floor,” the announcement reads…
