Accessing and Supporting Local Food Distribution

Local nonprofits are springing into action to support local food distribution following the temporary suspension of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

The Waccamaw Community Foundation (WCF) created an online giving hub where donors can contribute in three ways:

  • Give directly to trusted local food distribution nonprofits through links to their websites.
  • Contribute through Waccamaw Gives, where WCF will distribute donations to local organizations on your behalf.
  • Support the ONE SC Fund, which was activated by Gov. Henry McMaster earlier this month and provides statewide assistance to food banks

“We know that when a federal program like SNAP is disrupted, it is our local nonprofits who become the first line of help,” said Michael Mancuso, President & CEO of Waccamaw Community Foundation. “Our goal is to make it easy for donors to respond quickly and confidently – ensuring families in the Waccamaw Region don’t go hungry. Every dollar makes a difference right now. By giving through these channels, donors can be sure their gifts are feeding families and strengthening our community during this period of need.”
