PHOTOS: Grand Strand, Pee Dee communities pay tribute to U.S. veterans

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Crowds of people ignored the coldest weather of the fall Tuesday morning, gathering to commemorate Veterans Day in communities across the Grand Strand and Pee Dee.

The holiday, originally known as Armistice Day to mark the end of World War I, honors both living and deceased military members. It was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

Ceremonies were planned throughout Tuesday in Myrtle Beach, Dillon, Florence, Surfside Beach and Murrells Inlet.

More than 100 people turned out for the ceremony in Dillon to hear remarks by Mayor Tally McColl and County Council Chairman Stevie Grice. The Dillon High School Army JROTC cadets posted the colors and the Carolina Master Chorale sang “God Bless America” and the “Star-Spangled Banner.”…
