Man cannot own pet for 2 years after guilty plea in Horry County dog neglect case

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The man at the center of an August dog neglect case in Horry County cannot own a pet for the next two years.

Herbert Dozier pleaded guilty to one count of ill-treatment of animals on Nov. 4, Tonya Root, a spokesperson for the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office confirmed.

The plea is connected to his August arrest, when officers with the Horry County Police Department found more than 30 dogs in poor conditions at a yard along Merritt Drive near Conway.

The State asked the judge to sentence Dozier to 18 months in prison…
