Crisp winds whipped through Memorial Park in Surfside Beach as nearly 200 people gathered to observe Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
It was just one of many observances held to honor veterans across the Grand Strand.
U.S. Navy veteran Eugene A. “Chip” Woodlief Jr., a Surfside Beach local, addressed the crowd in front of the Veteran Memorial wall on Surfside Drive.
“Now, I’ll be the first to say I don’t have one of those dramatic, movie-worthy stories of heroism, battle. And that’s exactly why I’m grateful to speak today,” Woodlief said. “Because the truth is, the vast majority of American veterans look like me. We serve in engine rooms, flight decks, and infantry, and supply units and communications, and thousands of different roles that have kept our military strong.”…
