HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — Thursday marked the first month’s winners for the Talkin’ Trash Recycling & Waste Reduction Contest sponsored by Horry County Solid Waste Authority.
Fourth graders at Palmetto Bays Elementary School were the first stop of the day. Students collected their points by improving their waste practices, including reducing landfill trash, classroom paper, commingled recyclables and compostables.
“Super proud. Yes, I know that we have some competition of schools that are at a thousand or more students, and we’re at about 575, so that’s a big deal that we can win,” STEM Teacher Christine White said.
