Horry County leaders to honor Bethune, Hatley as new mayors ready to take office

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Two long-serving mayors are being honored by Horry County leaders as they prepare to leave office.

Councilmembers in December are expected to recognize Brenda Bethune’s tenure serving Myrtle Beach and Marilyn Hatley’s time presiding over North Myrtle Beach, according to documents made public Wednesday.

Bethune, who in 2018 became her city’s first female mayor, lost a re-election bid to Mark Kruea earlier this month.

“Mayor Bethune has focused her efforts on projects to revitalize the cityscape, to establish an arts and innovation district and to attract new businesses and to entice local businesses and investors to help maintain the unique history and heritage of Myrtle Beach and Horry County,” a resolution on the council’s administration subcommittee says…
