Newly appointed Surfside Beach Police Chief William Mickle said he retired to South Carolina’s coast after 31 years in federal law enforcement “with no intention of being in charge of anything.”
“I really just wanted to retire here and just be a patrolman, be a policeman and just have to worry about myself,” Mickle said. “But if you want to hear God laugh, tell him your plans.”
