‘Proud of myself’: At-risk Horry County charter school students receive diplomas

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — High School graduation often marks the culmination of one’s education journey, but for a group of Horry County students, this graduation marks a milestone they once believed wasn’t possible.

Clapping and cheers filled the auditorium at Horry-Georgetown Technical College’s Grand Strand campus as 26 students received their high school diplomas. The graduates attended Carolina Shores Acceleration Academy (CSAA), a public charter school designed to be flexible.

“We just have such a wide range of students that come to our program with all different needs,” director Deirdra Brasch said. “All different places in their academic journey. This flexibility allows us to meet them where they’re at in their journey…
