Grand Strand grocery shoppers react to SNAP’s upcoming sweet treat restriction

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Food stamp users in South Carolina will no longer be able to purchase candy, sodas, or energy drinks with SNAP benefits after the USDA granted the state’s request on Wednesday.

The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture released a statement Wednesday saying the FDA’s new approval marks “historic steps to reverse the chronic diseases epidemic that has taken root in this country for far too long.”

The USDA granted this request as part of the Trump administration’s push to “Make America Healthy Again.”…
