North Myrtle Beach police use go-karts to connect with public

Anyone who ever wanted to legally outrun a police officer had the chance to do so Friday night.

The North Myrtle Beach Police Department hosted a Cops & Karts event on Dec. 12 at K1speed on Main Street. Smiles were all over the place. Blue lights and sirens weren’t.

“It was a great idea just to bring the community and businesses together, especially around this time of the year,” said North Myrtle Beach police officer James Bosworth. “Bring people that would like to race a legal way to race us. It’s perfect.”

The go-karts used at the indoor K1speed track were capable of reaching speeds up to 35 mph. Drivers wore head socks and helmets for safety…
