Conway man serving 20 years for role in 2022 police shootout wants conviction tossed

CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) — A Conway man serving 20 years in prison for shooting at a police officer after a failed December 2023 traffic stop is asking a judge to free him.

Tywrell Alston was 18 when on the night of Dec. 29 he pulled into a driveway near Forest Loop Road and began shooting at an officer who returned fire. Alson was later treated for life-threatening injuries before being charged with a range of crimes including attempted murder.
