Horry Co. 5th precinct opens, boosting police visibility and efficiency

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — Emergency services in Carolina Forest are receiving a significant upgrade with the activation of Horry County’s 5th precinct.

Although currently operating from a temporary location at the old fire station off Forestbrook Road as of Dec. 9, the precinct is set to move to the Central Coast Complex once construction is complete.

Horry County Chief of Police Kris Leonhardt explained the early activation, saying, “I’ve been going around the county as well since Dec. 9 when we initiated the fifth precinct. And you’re seeing a lot more officers in areas now. Just because of the sheer number of folks we have out there. So I think the visual presence will be great for our folks to see, our citizens to see, to know that, you know, our department’s growing to serve their needs.”…
