Grand Strand Humane Society encourages against impulse adoptions during the holidays

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – The holidays can always be a great time to add a new furry friend to your home, but choosing to adopt is a decision that the Grand Strand Humane Society said shouldn’t be made lightly.

Around the holidays, adoption numbers tend to rise, as some choose to gift a new dog or cat for Christmas. Jess Wnuk, executive director of the GSHS, said while they embrace the idea of gifting a pet for the holidays, it should never be an impulsive idea.

“We just always want to make sure that we’re being responsible in that,” said Wnuk. “Making sure that we’re making the right matches and that everyone in the home is going to be welcoming that pet.”…
