Conservationist uses art to spotlight Waccamaw River beauty amid highway debate

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — The ongoing Horry County transportation tax collection aims to fund major road projects, including the proposed extension of SC 22. However, a conservation group continues to oppose several routes for the new highway, which could impact the Waccamaw River and National Wildlife Refuge.

Artist Mary Edna Fraser is using her art to highlight the natural beauty of the river, which may be affected by the highway’s construction.
