‘The most fun I’ve ever had’: Horry County student reflects on Rose Parade experience

SOCASTEE, S.C. (WBTW) — A Horry County student says performing in front of thousands of people on New Year’s Day in the Rose Parade was an unforgettable experience.

John Buie, a marching band snare drummer at Socastee High School, was one of the 300 high school musicians from across the nation to be part of the prestigious national honor band. He said the feeling of being part of the band and parade was unlike any other.

“That was the most fun I’ve ever had with any sort of band. And that was the best group I’ve ever performed with because that sound has no comparison to anything,” he said. “It was very different. That’s the best way I can put it, because it felt weird being around such a high-level group, a group that I really enjoyed being around.”…
