Verizon issues statement after outage disrupts service to thousands

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Verizon issued an apology and promise on Wednesday night as thousands of customers across the country saw their services disrupted.

“Today, we let many of our customers down and for that, we are truly sorry. They expect more from us,” the company said in a statement around 9 p.m. “We are working non-stop and making progress. Our teams will continue to work through the night until service is restored for all impacted customers.”

Outage tracker Downdetector showed that Verizon customers began to report issues with their service around noon E.T. Reports appeared to peak in the early afternoon and remained elevated later in the day — sitting close to 33,000 as of 8:00 p.m. ET.

Phone in SOS mode? Here’s what you can do

Impacted users said their phones were in “SOS” mode or had other no signal messages. In New York, alerts warned that the outage may disrupt 911 calls — urging residents to try landlines and devices from other carriers, if available, or visit a local police or fire station in-person in case of an emergency…
