MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – We have issued FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAYS for Saturday and Sunday as a developing winter storm looks to take aim at the Carolinas. For us here locally, freezing rain and an increasing ice threat continues to be the main concern.
This classic winter storm pattern is set to develop this weekend as cold arctic air rushes in Friday night and drops temperatures throughout the day on Friday. With the cold arctic air arriving ahead of the moisture, confidence continues to increase in impacts to both the Grand Strand and Pee Dee.
While we’re still five days out, enough of a risk in place, that the National Weather Service has placed North Carolina in a large risk of heavy snow and most of South Carolina under a risk for freezing rain.
The latest data this morning continues to double down on a significant winter storm arriving Saturday and continuing throughout the duration of Sunday.
