(WPDE) — Each month, ABC15 honors a community leader with the Carolina Champion Award, recognizing individuals who inspire extraordinary action. This month’s recipient, Brock Johnson, knows firsthand how life can change in an instant — and how purpose can rise from tragedy.
In 2011, Johnson dove off the back of a boat, unaware that the tide had shifted, and the water beneath him had become dangerously shallow. When he hit the bottom, he was immediately paralyzed from the neck down.
“I didn’t panic, and I didn’t have a flashback of my life,” Johnson said. “I just tried to be calm and pray. I prayed that they would see me.”…
