Pawleys Island police chief uses genealogy hobby to solve help cold cases

PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WMBF) -Pawleys Island Police Chief Michael Fanning has been in law enforcement for over two decades, but his curiosity in researching his own family tree opened his eyes to a new approach in solving cold cases.

“I was dabbling in genealogy as a hobby, and when I moved here and had a little more free time, I started getting into it more in depth,” Fanning said.
