CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) — As Horry County officials plan for how best to dispose of its solid waste in the coming decades, some aren’t quite ready to embrace a 100-acre landfill expansion plan.
“You can do it as safely as possible and you can do it as perfect as you can, and it’s still going to an unpopular perception from the community, filling in wetlands for trash,” councilman Dennis DiSabato said at a Tuesday committee meeting where the topic was discussed.
The county’s Solid Waste Authority for years has been working toward growing the Highway 90 landfill to extend its lifespan through 2051 and in December applied for a federal U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permit that would allow 120 acres of wetlands to be filled in for that purpose…
