A Myrtle Beach dance studio is offering beginner-level classes for adults interested in joining a vibrant and vibing social dance community.
R&R Dance Studio, located at 6417 Dick Pond Road, sees about 30-40 people at each class. Adults of all ages and experience levels are learning how to Salsa and Bachata — latin-style social dances. People are there for a variety of reasons; some come for fitness, others to master a new skill and some to meet new people in a welcoming environment.
Jonica Brown, a longtime Myrtle Beach local and competitive dancer at R&R Dance Studio, said dancing with a partner requires communication, but demonstrates a new type of conversation.
“It helps us to learn how to, not only communicate with others, but how to communicate from within ourselves. A lot of times I think we talk to people based on what they want to hear, and I think partner-dancing forces you to come to terms with your own voice,” Brown said. “And learning how to blend that in with someone you may know, or may not know, to create a whole new level of conversation and communication.”…
