New Directions planning $7.5M women’s center as community need grows

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A Myrtle Beach-based group that works with the area’s homeless population is raising capital for a planned $7.5 million women’s shelter.

“This is so important for the community. We do have a lot of money to raise. We’re right now just looking for support from the council to combine parcels and start to really get serious about raising money,” outgoing New Directions CEO Kathy Jenkins said Tuesday.

Established in 2013, New Directions to date has sheltered more than 12,000 individuals and 700 families, helping many to transition out of homelessness or connect with medical services…
