SC Highway 9 improvement project in Loris is 90-percent complete

Orange barrels line the street and there is fresh cement in front of several residences in the city of Loris. Crews keep busy at a worksite about a mile east of Loris Elementary School. It’s all a part of the project to improve SC-9 East.

“The SC-9 widening project is nearing completion,” said Kelly Moore of the SC Department of Transportation. “The new roundabout has been constructed, and traffic is now moving through the roundabout in its final configuration. A final asphalt surface still must be installed throughout the project limits as well as final traffic markings. The new street lighting at the roundabout is nearing completion as well. Final asphalt surface work is expected to begin in the coming weeks.”

Kimberly Clifford of the Horry County Public Information Office said the SC-9 project is 90-percent complete.

“The road has been widened with a median…and sidewalks have also been added,” Clifford said. “The project is expected to be completed by (late) spring 2026, due to seasonal restrictions prohibiting the final surfacing at this time.”…
