The city of Myrtle Beach attempts to address speeding on Farrow Parkway

The city of Myrtle Beach decided against a $162,200 traffic and speed study for the Market Common area at the council meeting on Tuesday, March 10.

The Myrtle Beach City Council made addressing speeding violations on Farrow Parkway a priority at their first meeting of 2026, anticipating a possible solution within a two-month period. Since January, city staff reported that larger 30 mph signs were installed and the Myrtle Beach Police Department’s presence and enforcement in the Market Common area increased.

“Based on staff recommendation… we leave the speed limits the way they are and we do some enhancements,” Mayor Pro-tem Debbie Conner said. “From my perspective, the only reason that we would engage in this type of study is if there is a big push to start making changes to speed limits there – against staff recommendations – which then we need to be informed with this data to make changes.”…
