SCDNR to release hatchery-raised southern flounder into SC estuaries in historic event

MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (WCIV) — The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources will be releasing hatchery-grown Southern flounder into South Carolina estuaries for the first time Friday, marking a historic milestone in marine conservation for the state.

According to information from SCDNR this release represents the culmination of multiple years of pioneering research that is responsible for establishing the first southern flounder stock enhancement program along the Atlantic coast. Their goal though this program is to strengthen costal fisheries and support the long-term sustainability of flounder in South Carolina waters.
