Surfside Beach considers jail time for people who are caught repeatedly feeding geese

The Surfside Beach town council is considering increasing penalties for feeding birds and waterfowl from a $200 fine to 30 days in jail.

Councilman John Hiatt brought forward a new ‘bird and water fowl’ ordinance for the town council’s consideration at the meeting on Tuesday, March 10. He adjusted the language of the Surfside Beach code of ordinance that outlines the rules and regulations with respect to the birds and waterfowl in the town.

Hiatt noted the ordinance says “violators shall not be subject to incarceration.”…
