Report: Driver who led police on chase through Horry County reached 100 mph

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The man police said was responsible for a chase across Horry County on Tuesday has been identified.

Donald Smith, 35, of Georgetown, is facing multiple charges from different agencies, including failure to stop for blue lights, possession of a stolen vehicle, grand larceny, and driving under the influence.

A Horry County police report said Aynor police alerted HCPD that they were trying to catch a vehicle traveling 100 mph on Highway 501 into Conway.

Horry County officers responded and saw the car, a 2009 Honda Accord, turn down Highway 548, but it wasn’t seen again until Smith turned onto Juniper Bay Road toward Highway 378, according to the report…
