Troopers charge Surfside Beach man with DUI, hit-and-run in golf-cart crash that injured son, warrants say

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A Surfside Beach man admitted to drinking “throughout the day” when he crashed his golf cart recently and seriously injured his 6-year-old son, according to arrest warrants.

Brandon Michael Bawgus, 41, is charged with felony hit-and-run, driving under the influence and child endangerment in connection with the March 14 crash, which happened about 7:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Ocean Commons Drive, just outside the Surfside Beach town limits, according to warrants News13 obtained from the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Bawgus admitted to being the driver of the golf car when it went off the right side of the road, hit a curb and overturned, the warrants said. After crashing, he fled and hid the golf cart in his garage…
