Georgia man who drowned saving Pawleys Island family gets major heroism award

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. (WBTW) — A Georgia man who died rescuing six people from a Pawleys Island rip current last summer is being honored with a prestigious national award.

Anderson “Chase” Childers was posthumously honored Monday with a Carnegie Medal for Heroism, one of 18 to receive the award, North America’s highest honor for civilian heroism.
