$1.25 million settlement approved in lawsuit against Renaissance Tower over structural issues

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A federal lawsuit in Horry County ended with some Myrtle Beach area condo owners receiving paychecks.

A judge in November approved a $1.25 million settlement in a 2022 lawsuit against the Renaissance Tower on South Kings Highway.

People who owned condos at the Renaissance Tower sued after an emergency shutdown, during which Horry County Code Enforcement and a private engineer hired by the building’s homeowners association board deemed the building unsafe on Oct. 7, 2022.

The condo owners said they sued because, during the nearly five months they were forced out, they still had to pay for structural steel repairs…
