A field of 2,977 flags, one for every first responder and civilian killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, is on display in Oak Brook as families, volunteers and visitors gather to remember the victims and their stories.
Among those visiting the display was Sue Mladenik, who searched through the sea of flags to find the one bearing the name of her husband, Jeffrey. Jeffrey Mladenik was aboard Flight 11 from Boston, the first plane to strike the World Trade Center that morning…
