Motive for shootings remains unclear
Romeo Nance, 23, allegedly took the lives of eight people before ending his own life in a confrontation with U.S. marshals in Texas. Authorities revealed on Tuesday that Nance was related to most, if not all, of the victims, adding a layer of complexity to the tragic incident.
The shootings occurred at two residences in Joliet, Illinois, leaving seven victims aged 14 to 47. Joliet Police Chief Bill Evans, in a press conference, expressed the difficulty in comprehending Nance’s motives, stating, “We just don’t have any clue as to why he did what he did.”
Among the victims were Christine Esters, 38, Tamaeka Nance, 47, William Esters II, 35, Joshua Nance, 31, and Alexandria Nance, 20. The identities of the two teenage victims remain undisclosed pending autopsies.
Law enforcement’s urgent search for the armed and dangerous suspect was prompted after discovering several victims on Monday. Two victims were found during the search for Nance’s red Toyota Camry, linked to two other shootings on Sunday, one of which was fatal.
