‘A history of violent attacks’: Man serving time for domestic battery sentenced to additional 9 years for attacking girlfriend

CHICAGO — A Plainfield man already serving an eight-year sentence for aggravated domestic battery will spend an additional nine years in prison for violently attacking his girlfriend in early 2018, Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow said.

According to Glasgow, 42-year-old Darrius Brown, who was sentenced to eight years in prison in 2020 for a prolonged four-day attack on his former girlfriend Jamie Hollingsworth, was sentenced to an additional nine years in prison for attacking his then-girlfriend, Elizabeth Balbuena, leaving her badly injured.

The Will County State’s Attorney said the violent attack began on March 17, 2018, while Brown and Balbuena were at the residence of his former girlfriend, Jamie Hollingsworth.

Balbuena told prosecutors that Brown had been acting paranoid all day and said he became enraged after a phone call, that is when the attack began.

According to Glasgow , Brown threw a cell phone at Balbuena, causing the skin on her shin area to split open. He then grabbed the back of her hooded jacket while she tried to escape, causing her to choke, while telling her she was “not going anywhere.”
