Concealed carry holder on South Side confronts suspects who stole his car: Police

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A concealed carry license holder tracked down his stolen SUV and confronted the people inside it Sunday in Chatham.

Chicago police said a 31-year-old man found his stolen Dodge Durango in a parking lot along 87th Street near the Dan Ryan at about 8:50am.

CBS-2 reported he called police who told him not to go after the three or four people inside the SUV, but the man’s father-in-law said he did anyway out of frustration.

“He went around, by the time he was going to get up, they saw us and they start driving, and then when the other guys in the back started shooting at us,” he told CBS-2.

The car owner shot back, hitting at least one of the suspects, while the SUV crashed into a nearby cell phone store.

Police said a 23-year-old man in the vehicle was hit in the neck and took himself to the hospital in serious condition.

Police said the suspects tried to run off but a juvenile was caught and arrested.

The Durango was totaled in the crash, and three weapons were recovered at the scene.
