Joliet mayor asking for help to raise funds for funerals of 7 family members killed

JOLIET, Ill. — The mayor of Joliet is asking residents for their help to raise funds for the funerals of seven family members who were murdered by a relative.

According to police, 23-year-old Romeo Nance fatally shot seven members of his family at two homes on the 2200 block of West Acres Road on Jan. 21.

The individuals were identified as Christine Esters 38; William Esters, 35; Tameaka Nance, 47; Joshua Nance, 31; Alexandria Nance, 20; Alonnah Nance, 16; and Angel Nance, 14.

Nance fatally shot himself near Natalia, Texas, after U.S. Marshals located him the following day.

Mayor Terry D’Arcy is asking the community for donations to cover the funeral expenses of those who were killed.

“They need about $50,000 dollars and to date they have a little under $20,000 so every donation is welcome. Joliet residents have some of the biggest hearts in the region and now we can pull together and help one of our own,” added D’Arcy.
