CHICAGO — The University of Chicago Medical Center announced on Thursday that around 180 employees have been laid off.
The affected staff members were made aware of the lay offs throughout the day on Thursday and are reportedly being provided a severance package.
“This decision was not made lightly or easily but is necessary to position us to deliver on our mission and enhance the quality of care that we provide,” the University of Chicago Medical Center wrote in a statement.

The University of Chicago Medical Center did not specify on which positions were apart of the lay offs, but did note that majority of the positions are not direct patient facing roles.
With roughly 13,000 employees , the University of Chicago Medical Center let go of less than 2% of their staff on Thursday.
No further information has been released regarding the decision at this time.
