Zach LaVine’s frustrating season ended on Saturday after the team announced that the two-time All-Star guard would undergo surgery on his ailing right foot. The decision came after LaVine and his representatives consulted with the team’s medical staff, eventually opting for surgery that would sideline him for four to six months.
Injury-riddled season
This development ends LaVine ’s injury-riddled season, as he finishes with subpar numbers of 19.5 points on 45 percent shooting, including a woeful 34 percent from three-point land, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.9 assists. The former UCLA star played in only 25 of the Bulls’ 49 games this season, missing the entire December due to the foot issue that ultimately ended his campaign.
“I spent a little bit of time with him at shootaround, just talking and seeing how he was feeling,” Bulls coach Billy Donovan said .
“Obviously, he made a decision that he felt was best for his health. I really feel like he did everything he could to try to get himself back to playing. I think the discomfort in his foot was at a place where he just didn’t feel like he had any chance of being himself and contributing. And I think that was really frustrating and hard for him. Personally, I feel bad for him. I know how bad he wants to play. When he can’t be out there, it just bothers him. He just wants to play.”
