(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Barnes & Noble will open a book store at a historic building in Wicker Park, plus three other locations in the Chicago market later this year, according to a published report.
Crain’s Chicago Business on Wednesday quoted a Barnes & Noble official who said the chain will occupy at least a portion of the ornate building at 1601 N. Milwaukee Avenue, a onetime bank. The site was most recently a flagship store for Walgreens before the drugstore chain closed it early in 2023.
The other new Barnes & Noble locations will be at 651 W. Diversey in Lincoln Park and, in the suburbs, Northbrook and Oswego, Crain’s reported.
Barnes & Noble has both closed book stores and opened new locations in Chicago and the outlying region in recent memory.
Early this year, the Barnes & Noble in Naperville closed, as did the location on Clybourn Avenue on Chicago’s North Side last year. In November 2022, the chain opened a store at Old Orchard Mall in Skokie, where it had closed a store previously.
