Ex-Jazz Greg Ostertag on how to possibly beat Jordan: “You knew Michael was going to get his points”

Former Utah Jazz center Greg Ostertag played two NBA Finals series against Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in the late 90s. Needless to say, “The Big O” had a lot to say about the GOAT. Though Ostertag’s massive size was not enough to stop Jordan, he was able to figure out a way to somehow limit “His Airness” from inflicting damage, and eventually win.

According to Ostertag, MJ would definitely score no matter what, but it’s a must to prevent his teammates from having a great game as well. That way, your team would have a better chance of winning if Jordan were forced to do everything by himself.

“When you play a team with a player like Michael Jordan or a LeBron James, or somebody like that, … you knew Michael was going to get his points,” Ostertag said in 2020 via 247 Sports . “You couldn’t let the guys that were like role players be the ones that killed you. You couldn’t let Luc Longley or Bill Wennington or someone like that go out and get double-figure points and double-figure rebounds, because that was going to kill you ultimately.”
