Chairman of DuPage Water Commission voices concerns over Chicago water prices, preferential treatment given to Joliet
Over 30 communities in DuPage County that currently rely on the city of Chicago for its drinking water supply, are reconsidering this arrangement. Leaders say that they will continue searching for a different alternative.
Jim Zay, the chairman of the DuPage Water Commission, expressed dissatisfaction with Chicago, citing various issues. These concerns encompass escalating costs of Chicago water, preferential rates granted to Joliet without similar benefits extended to DuPage County, and apprehensions regarding the condition of the pumping station facilitating water delivery to the county.
The commission is exploring alternatives, including procuring water from Lake Michigan via different channels, as outlined by Zay. One proposed scenario entails establishing a northern water line route originating from Glencoe, potentially involving collaboration with a northwest suburban water commission.
