‘We want those cops fired’: Activists protest outside CPD Headquarters, demanding justice for Dexter Reed

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A rally was held outside Chicago Police Headquarters Thursday night, calling on the firing of the officers involved in the deadly shooting of Dexter Reed.

A group of protesters gathered outside of CPD Headquarters ahead of a scheduled police board meeting in support of 26-year-old Dexter Reed, who last month was shot 96 times in 41 seconds by a CPD tactical team.

According to a recent report released by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, officers pulled Reed  over for a seatbelt violation. The traffic stop escalated into a shootout, with the report saying Reed shot first.

Mark Clements, Chicago Torture Justice Center plans to bring demands to the board meeting directly.

“We’re going to go inside at [the] police board meeting, and we’re going to tell them that we want those cops, who murdered Dexter Reed, the cops that lynched Dexter Reed with 96 shots, we want those cops fire. We want those cops convicted,” Clements said.

The head of the Civilian Office of Police Accountability has called on CPD Superintendent Larry Snelling to strip the officers of their police powers.
