The National Weather Service (NWS) has warned beachgoers in Lake, Cook, and Porter counties to avoid the water due to life-threatening swimming conditions.

Large Waves and Strong Currents Create Dangerous Conditions

According to the NWS, waves are expected to reach heights of 5 to 8 feet along southern Lake Michigan’s beaches. These conditions pose significant risks, especially for inexperienced swimmers. The NWS advises that swimming in these conditions could be life-threatening, urging beachgoers to remain out of the water to avoid being caught in dangerous currents.
