Kyle Hendricks Sticks the Landing in his Final 2024 Start

His future is up un the air.

Once in a while sports provides a storybook ending. Kyle Hendricks‘s final 2024 start provided an example of that. Hendricks, by and large, has had a miserable 2024 campaign going into Saturday’s start with an ERA over 6.00 and a won-loss record of 4-12. However, what Cubs’ fans will remember is that Hendricks was one of the greatest pitchers in Cubs’ history. He was also the epitome of class.

Saturday was vintage Kyle Hendricks as he went 7.1 innings and gave up no runs on two hits. He struck out two while walking two. The wind was once again blowing in, which also was a help for Hendricks. The Cubs won 3-0, scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Hendricks didn’t get the win, so the day wasn’t quite perfect, but it was still a memorable day for Cubs’ baseball.

What next for Kyle Hendricks?

Hendricks finished the season with an ERA of 5.92. But he was better in the final month. Whether that translates into another contract with the Cubs remains to be seen. For a team that aspires to make the playoffs in 2025 Hendricks would seem like a longshot signing. The Cubs will be looking to upgrade their rotation.
