(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Dozens of dogs from Florida just finished a long road trip.
The Anti-Cruelty Society partnered with BISSELL Pet Foundation to bring 25 dogs from Pasco County, Florida to the Chicago area. They arrived on Wednesday in a retrofitted bus.
“There’s lots of barking, lots of wagging, there’s lots of celebration,” Darlene Duggan, president of the Anti-Cruelty Society said.
Shelters nationwide help each other during catastrophic events, to make room for pets directly affected. The preparation begins when they hear a hurricane is coming.
“Joking among staff as they were coming off the bus, ‘should we tell them about Chicago winters now, or should we wait a couple hours?’”
Florida dogs, now making Chicago home. Local fosters are needed to house these dogs.
