Citing safety concerns, trustees boycott meeting with Dolton mayor

THORNTON TOWNSHIP (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – There was supposed to be a meeting of the Thornton Township Board of Trustees Tuesday night, but nobody showed up.

The embattled Township Supervisor Tiffany Henyard, who’s also seen a similar situation in Dolton, where she serves as mayor, was the only official present.

“Due to the fact that we do not have a quorum, there will not be an actual voting meeting,” she announced.

One trustee, Chris Gonzalez, told CBS News Chicago, they were no-shows because of the chaotic situation experienced at a previous meeting.

“It was about to get physical,” Gonzalez said. We need some help here because this is getting out of control, and somebody is going to get hurt.”

Trustees want a security plan for the meetings. Henyard said safety is her top priority and  thinks there’s more to this than security.

She has faced push-back from trustees on both the township board and the Dolton Village Board over a variety of issues.

“To say this is an antic, ok, well, let’s sit down and put something together, a safety plan,” Gonzalez added.
