Controversial signs at Wheaton restaurant ignite support among customers

CHICAGO – A Wheaton restaurant owner was surprised at the reaction he received after posting two signs at his establishment.

The community, however, has rallied behind him to show their support.

Matt Marquez, owner of Moveable Feast + Company in Wheaton, described the backlash he’s been receiving after installing two signs outside his restaurant earlier this week.

“It’s ‘Make America Healthy Again’ which we strongly believe in and we put a picture of our storefront, and then we put another sign that said ‘Jesus is my Savior,’ and ‘Trump is my president,’” Marquez said.

He never imagined displaying the signs would provoke hostile reactions.

“We started getting tons of messages of just horrible negativity and threats and just really, really bad things and attacking my family personally,” Marquez said.

He went and shared the negative feedback on social media. Although he said the criticism was intense at first, the support from customers began pouring in.
