Investigation underway after man shot in head in Elk Grove Village

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. – An investigation is underway after a man was shot in the head early Sunday morning in Elk Grove.

Joe Heimer lives in the area and said police officers flooded his neighborhood Sunday morning after shots rang out on Dogwood Trail.

“Woke up around five o’clock in the morning. I see a bunch of flashing lights. I look out the window, the street here is blocked off, bunch of squad cars, see a couple of kids standing out there talking to the cops,” Heimer said.

Authorities said a group of people were sitting in a driveway when another group approached and fired shots, hitting one person in the head.

“There was another group that walked towards that group on Dogwood Trail and opened fire on them, injuring the one person. We know they fled on foot,” Deputy Police Chief Scott Eisenmenger said.

The victim’s friends tried to get him into a Subaru and take him to the hospital, but first responders took over and rushed him to Lutheran General Hospital where he’s said to be stable.
