Residents Who Feel ‘Scammed And Hurt’ By South Shore Landlord Want Out Of Their Leases

SOUTH SHORE — After months of what residents called “progressively worse” living conditions at 6725-33 S. Paxton Ave., including below-freezing indoor temperatures, pest infestations and utility shutoffs, the South Shore complex caught fire in late February.

Days later, property manager CKO Real Estate told tenants in the building and at its other properties that the company’s management arm would shut down amid an “internal corporate restructuring.”

The Feb. 26 email sent to residents included no immediate next steps, aside from waiting for “further instruction.” There was no offer of relocation assistance — and for tenants of the Paxton Avenue property, not even a formal acknowledgement that their building had caught fire, said L.D., a resident who was granted anonymity over fears of retaliation…
