Oak Brook, IL – A Chicago man is in custody after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase through DuPage County in a stolen Toyota 4Runner, with speeds reaching up to 100 mph before fleeing on foot near a school, authorities said.
According to the Oak Brook Police Department, 26-year-old Theon Mitchell was denied pre-trial release following his arrest on multiple felony charges, including aggravated possession of a stolen motor vehicle and aggravated fleeing and eluding police.
The incident began around 1:37 p.m. on March 19 when an Oak Brook officer spotted the reportedly stolen vehicle on Route 83. Police say Mitchell allegedly accelerated to 75 mph in rainy conditions when officers attempted a traffic stop.
